From 1935 until the present day we've always been ahead of our field in customer service and care. This is the Madill timeline from humble beginnings selling Chevrolets until the present date with numerous locations in South Queensland.









1935
Thomas J D Madill first entered the automotive business in partnership with his brother Alex S Madill in Gympie trading as Carlton Motor Company selling Vauxhall, Chevrolet, Pontiac Passenger Cars and Bedford Trucks.

1941
Carlton Motor Company ceased trading for four years during World War II and the partnership was disolved. Through these years another party acquired the franchises.

Dec 1945
On his return from War Service, Tom Madill formed a partnership with his wife, Leda to trade as Madills Service Station. The partnership operated as a Service Station and Used Car Sales and Maintenance on the corner of River Road & Monkland Street, Gympie.

Sep 1947
Madills Service Station was granted a franchise with The Rootes Group selling Hillman and Humber passenger cars and Commer Trucks.

1948
Business was expanded to take on the sales of David Brown and Field Marshall Tractors and associated farm implements.

Nov 1958
Rootes Group franchise was relinquished in favour of a General Motors franchise for Chevrolet, Pontiac and Vauxhall passenger cars and Bedford Trucks. The area of responsibility extended from Maryborough to Caboolture and west to Kingaroy. However this also increased the number of General Motors Dealers in Gympie to three but the other two held the franchise for Holden cars.

Mar 1961
Madills Service Station acquired one of the Holden dealerships Gillilands Garage in Mellor Street, Gympie, thus gaining the Holden (GMH) franchise. The Tractor and Farm Machinery franchises were relinquished to place more emphasis on Truck sales.

1967
Garth T S Madill, elder son of Tom and Leda Madill, joined the business as a trainee.

1970
Redeveloped the Service Department in Monkland Street to double its size to cater for increased business.

1971
The other Holden (GMH) dealership A V Lilley and Co. relinquished their franchise which then left Madills Service Station as the sole Holden (GMH) dealership for Gympie and districts.

1973
A private company called Madill Motors Pty Ltd was formed with the Madill family as directors and shareholders to trade as Madills (Holden Dealership) and Madills Shell Gympie Driveway (Shell Service Station) operating on the corner of Bruce Highway and Monkland Street, Gympie.

1974
Mercedes Benz passenger cars and Suzuki franchises were acquired.
Mercedes Benz Truck franchise was acquired.

1975
John D Madill the other son of Tom and Leda Madill, joined the business as a trainee. Acquired the Budget Rent a Car franchise for Gympie.

1976
Site of J Smith and Sons in Monkland Street was acquired for the development of a truck sales yard.

Dec 1977
Town and Country Motors, a Toyota dealership at Station Road, Gympie, was acquired but continued to operate on the same site under the direction of a General Manager.

Nov 1985
Opened a new and used vehicle yard at Noosa for Holden and Toyota as a branch of the Gympie Dealerships on a site adjacent to BP Service Station Mary Street, Noosaville. Appointed Mr. Joe Gilbert as an authorised service outlet of BP Noosaville for Noosa customers. Constructed totally new Service facility at Town and Country Motors, Station Road, Gympie.

May 1989
Acquired the Service and Parts business from Mr. Joe Gilbert at BP Noosaville. At the same time acquired the franchise for Caltex Fuel for the Service Station site at the corner of Mary Street and Weyba Road, Noosaville known today as "Caltex Noosaville".

Nov 1991
Acquired the franchise for Caltex Tewantin on Memorial Drive, Tewantin in adition to Caltex Noosaville.

June 1992
Acquired the full franchise for Budget Rent a Car for the Sunshine Coast managed through offices in Noosa, Maroochydore and Caloundra.

Jan 1993
Changed the trading name of Town and Country Motors to John Madill Toyota and John Madill appointed as Dealer Principal.

1994
Relinquished Mercedes Benz Car and Truck.

April 1995
Acquired Caltex franchised Service Station at Peregian. Budget Rent a Car for Maroochydore and Caloundra sold off. Acquired franchise for Daewoo Motor Vehicles marketing through John Madill Daewoo. Truck sales yard in Monkland St sold to Cooloola Shire Council for city parking requirements. Truck sales moved across the road adjacent to service department.

1996
Purchased 13 acres of land on the corner of Eumudi Road and Eenie Creek Road, Noosaville for future expansion of the Noosa Dealership. Formulated plan for multiple dealer sites under the name of Sunshine Coast Auto Park - Noosa.

Jan 1997
Commenced construction of roadworks and associated services in development of the Autopark.

Dec 1997
Commenced construction of the new dealership to house Madills Holden, John Madill Toyota and John Madill Daewoo on site in Autopark.

July 1998
Commenced business in new branch dealership at Autopark Noosa.

Feb 1999
Sale of Budget Rent a Car Noosa but retained Gympie Franchise.
